Willoughby Residence, Celebrates Light, Warmth & Texture

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Located on Sydney’s North Shore, this four bedroom home has been designed by Davis Architects and celebrates light, warmth and texture of material.

The house needed to accommodate the needs of the growing family of five, with outdoor entertaining and cooking being key factors in the formation of the design.

A series of linked spaces are then broken down into smaller sub-spaces that allow for casual interactions.

It was important that all materials selected were durable and sustainable, each adding a certain texture to the overall composition of the home. Breezway Altair Louvre Windows were selected as a way to help bring these elements to the home as they open wide to allow natural light and fresh air in to help keep the home comfortable for the family to enjoy without the need for artificial cooling. They are also made from non-corrosive materials and fully tested to Australian Standards 2047 so will stand the test of time.

The renovation maximises the site and available space, natural light aspects and indoor outdoor transitions.

This project won the RAIA Award 2015 for Best Alterations and Additions.
