Whale Watcher House with Breezway Louvres
SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
‘Whale Watcher’ is a three-storey, 700m2 architectural home designed by Adrian Ramsay Design House. Situated in Point Arkwright the home is open plan, and features Breezway Louvre Windows with broad views of the Sunshine Coast Coastline.
Inspiration for the design was driven by taking in the views from Point Arkwright to Point Cartwright and right across the sea. Due to the many floors and this being the client’s forever home, an elevator was included to provide easy access to each floor. When the client suggested having access to the pool from the top level of the home, this became a critical component of their living. However, it created a challenge of holding the weight of tonnes of water in the sky. Due to being three-storeys above ground, it was important to create a backyard in the sky. Hence, the next challenge that had to be overcome was forming a pool patio within regulations.
The entry was coming in under the pool, therefore there were structural requirements necessary. Three concrete blades were formed for the pool to sit on. Adrian Ramsay Design House were able to sculpt voids within the blades, creating a picture framing effect, this allowed light to flood through.
The ground floor holds a gym, four-car garage, full bathroom, and entry and lift access. The first floor houses a theatre, bar, laundry, four bedrooms, powder room and bathroom. Two bedrooms have rear garden access, while the other two have sea views. The top floor features the main bedroom and ensuite, powder room, butler’s pantry, a large kitchen, living room, dining, pool and a large outdoor living area.
‘Whale Watcher’ was recently featured on Australia’s Best House on 9Life.
