Palm Beach House, Relaxed Inside and Outside living

Extensive renovations were undertaken to this 1970′s clinker brick split level beach house. With breathtaking views north over Palm Beach, the external walls were the only thing left remaining of the original house.
The kitchen was brought from its rear courtyard location to the upper floor so views could be enjoyed while cooking or entertaining in this area, while the deck was extended with frameless glass ballustrading to also capture and make the most of the outdoor views. Both the upper level and ground floor living spaces have large timber and glass sliding doors which stack away to create wide openings allowing a continuous inside/outside living situation.
Annabelle Chapman states that “Altair Louvre Windows were incorporated into the design to solve the requirements of good ventilation into the house. They are safe, easy to clean from inside this multi-level building and provide a sound barrier for the household occupants when closed.”
The clients were keen on the timber lining of Hampton’s style houses, giving a relaxed beach feel to the house. Rough sandstone was used for the fireplace and courtyard walls maintaining the language of the local beach vernacular.
A retaining wall was added to the ground floor outdoor area converting an out-dated terraced rockery into a level lawn for the client’s grandchildren to play.
